The House is on Fire....

A man who has gone out of his town comes back and finds that his house is on fire.

It was one of the most beautiful houses in the town, and the man loved the house the most! Many were ready to give double price for the house, but he had never agreed for any price and now it is just burning before his eyes.

And thousands of people have gathered, but nothing can be done, the fire has spread so far that even if you try to put it out, nothing will be saved. So he becomes very sad.

His son comes running and whispers something in his ear:

"Don't be worried. I sold it yesterday and at a very good price ― three times.
The offer was so good I could not wait for you. Forgive me."

Father said, "thank God, it's not ours now!" Then the father is relaxed and became a silent watcher, just like 1000s of other watchers.

Please think about it!

Just a moment before he was not a watcher, he was attached.

It is the same house....the same fire.... everything is the same...but now he is not concerned. In fact started enjoying it just as everybody else in the crowd.

Then the second son comes running, and he says to the father, "What are you doing? You are smiling ― and the house is on fire?" The father said, "Don't you know, your brother has sold it."

He said, "We have taken only advance amount, not settled fully. I doubt now that the man is going to purchase it now."

Again, everything changes!!

Tears which had disappeared, have come back to the father's eyes, his smile is no more there, his heart is beating fast. The 'watcher' is gone. He is again attached.

And then the third son comes, and he says, "That man is a man of his word. I have just come from him. He said, 'It doesn't matter whether the house is burnt or not, it is mine. And I am going to pay the price that I have settled for. Neither you knew, nor I knew that the house would catch on fire.'"

Again the joy is back and family became 'watchers'! The attachment is no more there. Actually nothing is changing!

Just the feeling that "I am the owner! I am not the owner of the house!" makes the whole difference.

The Moral : This simple methodology of watching the mind, That you have nothing to do with it.

Everything starts with a Thought!

Most of the thoughts are not yours but from your parents, your teachers, your friends, the books, the movies, the television, the newspapers.

Just count how many thoughts are your own, and you will be surprised that not a single thought is your own. All are from other sources, all are borrowed ― either dumped by others on you, or foolishly dumped by yourself upon yourself, but nothing is yours.

Sow a thought, you reap an action.
Sow an act, you reap a habit.
Sow a habit, you reap a character.
Sow a character, you reap a destiny..!"

The Balloon......

A group of 50 people attended a seminar.
Suddenly the speaker stopped and started giving each person a balloon.
Each one was asked to write his/her name on it using a marker.

Then all the balloons were collected and put in another room.
Now these delegates were let in that room and asked to find the balloon which had their respective names written on within 5 minutes.
Everyone was frantically searching for their names, pushing and colliding with each other, and there was utter chaos.
At the end of 5 minutes, no one could find their own balloons.
Now each one was asked to randomly collect a balloon and give it to the person whose name was written on it.
Within minutes everyone had their own balloons.
The speaker began: This is exactly what is happening in our lives.
Everyone is frantically looking for happiness all over the place, not knowing where it is.
Our happiness lies in the happiness of other people.
Help them Find their happiness and you will get your own happiness too.
And this is the purpose of human life... Learn to put a smile on someone's face, and you will also smile in due course. God bless you all.

Ducks Quack, Eagles Soar

I was waiting in line for a ride at the airport in Dubai. When a cab pulled up, the first thing I noticed was that the taxi was polished to a bright shine. Smartly dressed in a white shirt, black tie, and freshly pressed black slacks, the cab driver jumped out and rounded the car to open the back passenger door for me.

He handed me a laminated card and said: 'I'm Abdul, your driver. While I'm loading your bags in the trunk I'd like you to read my mission statement.'

Taken aback, I read the card. It said: Abdul's Mission Statement:
To get my customers to their destination in the quickest, safest and cheapest way possible in a friendly environment.

This blew me away. Especially when I noticed that the inside of the cab matched the outside. Spotlessly clean!

As he slid behind the wheel, Abdul said, 'Would you like a cup of coffee? I have a thermos of regular and one of decaf.'

I said jokingly, 'No, I'd prefer a soft drink.'

Abdul smiled and said, 'No problem. I have a cooler up front with regular and Diet Coke, lassi, water and orange juice.'

Almost stuttering, I said, 'I'll take a Lassi.'

Handing me my drink, Abdul said, 'If you'd like something to read, I have The NST , Star and Sun Today.'

As they were pulling away, Abdul handed me another laminated card, 'These are the stations I get and the music they play, if you'd like to listen to the radio.'

And as if that weren't enough, Abdul told me that he had the air conditioning on and asked if the temperature was comfortable for me.

Then he advised me of the best route to my destination for that time of day. He also let me know that he'd be happy to chat and tell me about some of the sights or, if I preferred, to leave me with my own thoughts.

'Tell me, Abdul ,' I was amazed and asked him, 'have you always served customers like this?'

Abdul smiled into the rear view mirror. "No, not always. In fact, it's only been in the last two years. My first five years driving, I spent most of my time complaining like all the rest of the cabbies do. Then I heard about POWER OF CHOICE one day."

Power of choice is that you can be a duck or an eagle.

'If you get up in the morning expecting to have a bad day, you'll rarely disappoint yourself. Stop complaining!'

'Don't be a duck. Be an eagle. Ducks quack and complain. Eagles soar above the crowd.'

'That hit me. really hard' said Abdul.

'It is about me. I was always quacking and complaining, so I decided to change my attitude and become an eagle. I looked around at the other cabs and their drivers. The cabs were dirty, the drivers were unfriendly, and the customers were unhappy. So I decided to make some changes, slowly ... a few at a time. When my customers responded well, I did more.'

'I take it that it has paid off for you,' I said.

'It sure has,' Abdul replied. 'My first year as an eagle, I doubled my income from the previous year. This year I'll probably quadruple it. My customers call me for appointments on my cell phone or leave a message on it.'

Abdul made a different choice. He decided to stop quacking like a duck and start soaring like an eagle.

Start becoming an eagle today ... one small step every week..next week... And next...And....

A great Thought..

"You don't die if you fall in water, you die only if you don't swim.

Thats the Real Meaning of Life.

Improve yourself and your skills in a different way.
Be an eagle. .not a Duck.

Lions never bother about the flies

Flies are flies. They don't spare anyone, not even the king of the jungle. And these flies bother the king especially when, it is just sitting and doing nothing. ..

But lions are just not bothered about them. They will simply lift their tail once in a while, swing it this way or that way, to make the flies, fly away  and then just forget about them.

Just imagine, what will happen if a lion decides to teach a lesson to these troublesome flies by trying to catch them and then kill them.

Obviously, firstly he will have to forget that he is a king , instead he would need to act like a monkey  and then just run after these flies to catch them and kill them.

Will he ever be able to do so. Of course not. Why?  Because most of the flies are near its tail and hence if the lion has to catch these flies, he will need to reach his head closer to his tail, which obviously he cannot. And even if he could do that, he would still not be able to catch the flies because of the unique shape of it's  head and mouth.

So in case if a lion decides to kill the flies, he will keep running in circles, going round and round, reach nowhere, start looking funny and finally collapse out of frustration.

Sometimes, this is what exactly happens in our lives too. There are so many small small things (flies) happening in our life and bothering us. And what do we do?  We forget as to what our life goal is, instead we start wasting our time and energy on them. In the end, we miss our goal, reach no where, and finally collapse out of frustration, because it is just not possible to catch those flies.

And remember, these flies bother the lion, only when he is lying dormant. But when the lion is in action, up and running, these flies do not come anywhere close to the lion and they can't also.

So what to do. Just be aware of the fact that flies do bother a lion, but only when he is sitting idle, dormant and in an inactive state.

But when he is active, up and running, the flies never come any close to him.

Therefore, remain fully active, focused on your goal and these small small problems (flies) will stop troubling you and you will be able to realise your main Goal.

And always remember, "Lions never bother about the flies"

The Psychology of Happiness

Did you know that at Harvard, one of the most prestigious universities in the world, the most popular and successful course teaches you how to learn to be happier?

The Positive Psychology class taught by Ben Shahar attracts 1400 students per semester and 20% of Harvard graduates take this elective course.

According to Ben Shahar, the class - which focuses on happiness, self-esteem and motivation - gives students the tools to succeed and face life with more joy. This 35-year-old teacher, considered by some to be "the happiness guru", highlights in his class 14 key tips for improving the quality of our personal status and contributing to a positive life:

Tip 7. *Put everywhere nice memories, phrases and photos of your loved ones*: Fill your fridge, your computer, your desk, your room, YOUR LIFE of beautiful memories.
Tip 8. *Always greet and be nice to other people*: More than 100 inquiries state that just smiling changes the mood.
Tip 9. *Wear comfortable shoes*: If your feet hurt you, you become moody, says Dr. Keinth Wapner, President of the American Orthopaedics Association.
Tip 10. *Take care of your posture*: Walk straight with your shoulders slightly backwards and the front view helps to maintain a good mood.
Tip 11. *Listen to music* (Praise God): It is proven that listening to music awakens you to sing, this will make your life happy.
Tip 12. *What you eat has an impact on your mood*:- Do not skip meals, eat lightly every 3 to 4 hours and keep glucose levels stable.- Avoid excess white flour and sugar.- Eat everything! Healthy- Vary your food.
Tip 13. *Take care of yourself and feel attractive*:70% of people say they feel happier when they think they look good.
Tip 14. *Fervently believe in God*: With him nothing is impossible!

Happiness is like a remote control, we lose it every time, we go crazy looking for it and many times without knowing it, we are sitting on top of it .

Release your Ego

An engineer in a car manufacturing company designs a world class car.

The owner is impressed with the outcome and praised him a lot.
While trying to bring out the car from the manufacturing area to the showroom, they realised that the car is 2 inches taller than the entrance.
The engineer felt bad that he didn't notice this one before creating the car.
The owner was amazed on how to take it outside of the manufacturing area.
The painter said that they can bring out the car and there will be a few scratches on top of the car which could be touched up later on.
The engineer said that they can break the entrance, take the car out, and later re-do it.
The owner was not convinced with any ideas and felt like it is a bad sign to break or scratch.
A Watchman was observing all the drama & slowly approached the owner.  He wanted to give an idea if they had no problem.
They wondered what this guy would tell them that the experts could not give.
The watchman said "The car is only a few inches taller than the entrance so, Simply release the air in the tyre, the height of the car will sink and can be easily taken out"...
Everyone clapped!!!
Don't analyse the problems only from an expert point of view alone.
There is always a layman's outlook that gives an alternate solution at a given point of time...
Life issues are also the same....
Think Simple...
Do Simple and Live Simple Because Originally we are Happy Souls..

Release Some Air (Ego), and Adjust The Height (Attitude).

I've Learned.......

... Make sure you read all  the way down to the last  sentence.

I've  learned ... That  the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly  person.

I've  learned ....  That when you're in love, it shows.

I've  learned ....  That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!'  makes my day.

I've  learned ....  That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the  most peaceful feelings in the  world.

I've  learned ....  That being kind is more important than being  right.

I've  learned ....  That you should never say no to a gift from a child.

I've  learned ....  That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the  strength to help him in some other way.

I've  learned ....  That no matter how serious your life requires you to be,  everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

I've  learned ....  That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a  heart to understand.

I've  learned ....  That simple walks with my father around the block on summer  nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an  adult.

I've  learned ....  That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets  to the end, the faster it goes.

I've  learned ....  That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask  for.

I've  learned ....  That money doesn't buy class.

I've  learned ....  That it's those small daily happenings that make life so  spectacular.

I've  learned ....  That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be  appreciated and loved.

I've  learned ....  That to ignore the facts does not change the  facts.

I've  learned ....  That love, not time, heals all  wounds.

I've  learned ....  That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I've  learned ...  That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

I've  learned ....  That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the  ones you miss.

I've  learned ....  That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock  elsewhere.

I've  learned ....  That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one  more time before she passed away.

I've  learned ....  That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because  tomorrow he may have to eat them.

I've  learned .....  That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your  looks.

I've  learned .....  That when your newly born grandchild holds your little  finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for  life.

I've  learned ....  That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all  the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing

First They Came for.......

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

A Shoulder to Cry On

My mother used to ask me what the most important part of the body is.
Through the years I would take a guess at what I thought was the correct Answer.
When I was younger, I thought sound was very important to us as humans,so I said, "My ears, Mommy."
She said, "No. Many people are deaf. But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon."
Several years passed before she asked me again.
Since making my first attempt, I had contemplated the correct answer.
So this time I told her,
"Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes."
She looked at me and told me,
"You are learning fast, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind."
Stumped again, I continued my quest for knowledge and over the years,
Mother asked me a couple more times and always her answer was,
"No. But you are getting smarter every year, my child."
Then one year, my father died. Everybody was hurt. Everybody was crying.
My Mom looked at me when it was our turn to say our final good-bye to my father.
She asked me, "Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?"
I was shocked when she asked me this now.
I always thought this was a game between her and me.
She saw the confusion on my face and told me,
"This question is very important. It shows that you have really lived in your life.
For every body part you gave me in the past, I have told you were wrong and
I have given you an example why.
But today is the day you need to learn this important lesson."
She looked down at me and threw her head to my shoulder and hugged me.  I saw her eyes well up with tears. She said,
"My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder."
I asked, "Is it because it holds up my head?"
She replied, "No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or a loved one when they cry.
Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in life, my dear.
I only hope that you have enough love and friends that you will always have a shoulder to cry on
when you need it."
Then and there I knew the most important body part is not a selfish one.
It is made for others and not for yourself. It is sympathetic to the pain of others.
People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did.
But people will NEVER forget how you made them feel.

I Have No Enemies

I have no enemies, and no hatred. None of the police who have monitored, arrested and interrogated me, the prosecutors who prosecuted me, or the judges who sentence me, are my enemies. While I’m unable to accept your surveillance, arrest, prosecution or sentencing, I respect your professions and personalities, including Zhang Rongge and Pan Xueqing who act for the prosecution at present. I was aware of your respect and sincerity in your interrogation of me on December 3.
For hatred is corrosive of a person’s wisdom and conscience; the mentality of enmity can poison a nation’s spirit, instigate brutal life and death struggles, destroy a society’s tolerance and humanity, and block a nation’s progress to freedom and democracy. I hope therefore to be able to transcend my personal vicissitudes in understanding the development of the state and changes in society, to counter the hostility of the regime with the best of intentions, and defuse hate with love....
I do not feel guilty for following my constitutional right to freedom of expression, for fulfilling my social responsibility as a Chinese citizen. Even if accused of it, I would have no complaints.

Apple Polishing

A Rabbi was adored by the community, except for Issac , who never missed out any chance to point out faults in his teachings. Others too were annoyed by Issac. One day, Issac died. During the funeral, the community noticed that the Rabbi was deeply upset.
"Why are you so sad?" someone commented, "he was always criticizing everything you said."

The Rabbi said, " I'm not upset about my friend who is now in heaven. I am upset for my own self. While everyone revered me, he challenged me, and I was obliged to improve. Now he is gone, and I'm afraid I shall stop growing."

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is strange with its twists and turns
As everyone of us sometimes learns
And many a failure comes about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

MARIA'S NEW HAT!!!👒

Maria lived with her mother in a small apartment in NYC.

She wasn't too young or too old.. not too short or too tall..
not particularly beautiful nor ugly.. She was just an average woman.

She worked as a secretary at a large company
and her life was pretty much boring and mundane.

No one at work paid any attention to her...
Those that did considered her to be as boring as her life was.

One morning, on her way to work,
Maria saw a new hat shop that opened down the street.

In a spur of curiosity she walked in!

In the shop was a little girl and her mother,
who came to pick the girl a hat,  and another customer who was trying on hats...

Maria also tried on a few hats, until she found one she liked. She put it on and It looked nice!
First to notice was the little girl : "Mommy, look how pretty that woman looks with the hat on!"

The mother said: "Ma'am, I must say, this hat just looks wonderful on you!"
The second buyer also came to look : "Ma'am, you look lovely with that hat on!"

Maria went to the mirror..She looked at herself..
And for the first time in her adult life.. She liked what she saw.

Smiling, she went to the counter and bought the hat.
As she walked outside a new world revealed itself to her.

She never before noticed the colors of the flowers..or the scent of the fresh air..
The sound of the cars and the people.. sounded like an harmonious melody..

She walked as if drifting on a cloud..with a song in her heart..

When she passed by the coffee shop she walked by every morning, one of the young handsome man called out to her:   "Hey darling..looking good!  Are you new here?  Can I buy you a cup of coffee? "

She smiled shyly and kept walking..  Floating on her cloud...

When she got to the office building, the doorman opened the door and wished her Good Morning..
Never before had he even noticed her!

The people in the elevator asked her the floor she needed and pressed the button for her.
The people at the office, as if seeing her for the first time, flattered her on how lovely she looked today.

The manager asked her out to lunch to talk about how she felt at work!
When this magical workday was over she decided to take a cab home instead of the bus.

As soon as she put her hand up 2 taxis stopped! She took the first one and sat in the back seat..
Thinking about the miraculous day she had and how her life changed!! Thanks to the new hat!

When she got home, her mom opened the door. The sight of Maria took her breath away!
"Maria" she said surprised "How beautiful you look! Your eyes are all lit up like when you were a little girl! "

"Yes, mother" Said Maria  "It's all thanks to my new hat, I had the most marvelous day!"
"Maria" said her mother "What hat??"

*Maria panicked.*

She touched her head and saw that the hat that changed her life was not there...
She didn't remember taking it off in the cab.. Or at lunch.. Or at the office..

She thought back to the store where she had bought it..
How she noticed it for the first time.. She put it on.. Paying for it at the cashier's...

And she remembered painfully now.. How she put it on the counter..
To get her purse out to pay.. And how she forgot the hat right there.. On the counter...

Then she walked out to the street.. Hat-less yet glowing!
It wasn't the hat that freed Maria, it was the quality of her thoughts!

Our thoughts can enslave us into a horrible bondage or liberate us towards sweet freedom:
to be, do, or have anything we wish for!!!

An amazing prayer that cannot be more precise..

Lord, You know that I am growing older.

Keep me from becoming talkative and
possessed with the idea that I must express myself on every subject.

Release me from the craving to straighten out everyone's affairs.
Keep me from the recital of endless detail.

Give me wings to get to the point.
Seal my lips when I am inclined to tell of my aches and pains.

They are increasing with the years and
my love to speak of them grows sweeter as time goes by.

Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally, I may be wrong.
Make me thoughtful but not nosy; helpful but not bossy.

With my vast store of wisdom and experience,
it does seem a pity not to use it all. But You know, Lord ––

I want a few friends at the end!

Turn of the Wheel........

He propelled himself as the Voice of his people and set the tone to enhance his image, by causing damage to a defunct structure.World War II was one of the bloodiest wars in history. The unprovoked German attack on Poland in 1939 set the war in motion, and it raged for six years until the Nazis were defeated in 1945. Unfortunately when the time came to take over the reins, his position was usurped by his own, who claimed to have a better vision for the people. It was a brutal six years, with more than 50 million soldiers and civilians killed in the war. A large portion of the death toll was due to the genocide of six million European Jews killed by Hitler’s directives. Death camps and concentration camps contributed one of the deadliest genocides in history. This genocide was carried out in stages, with the extermination camps eventually posed as “the Final Solution to the Jewish Question.”  Anti-semitism was not a new concept when Hitler rose to power—and he preyed on this fear of the other by scapegoating Jews for the economic problems and social unrest Germany was facing after World War I. The historian and scholar Eberhard Jackel wrote about why the Holocaust was so shocking to those who lived through it. Gradually members of the other communities were directed to fall in line or get out.Never before had a state with the authority of its responsible leader decided and announced that a specific group, would be killed as quickly as possible, and then carried through this resolution using every possible means of state power. The best way to take control over people, is to take a little of their freedom at a time. To erode Rights by a Thousand tiny reductions. In this way people will not see their Rights being removed, until it reaches a point when it cannot be reversed. First came the dress code, then the drink code and now the eat code.Vigilantes took to the streets to settle old scores. The tales told remind us that state sanctioned violence on a scale as massive as the Holocaust didn’t happen overnight. It took resources, supporters, and infrastructure. Of course there was nothing in the newspapers about the Nazi bunkers. That was very much a taboo subject, as was everything about the Nazi period. That is what the media fed and the public consumed it. Do you see history repeat itself

AMOR FATI - Learn To Love Your Fate.......

Amor fati is a Latin phrase that may be translated as "love of fate" or "love of one's fate". It is used to describe an attitude in which one sees everything that happens, including suffering and loss as, necessary. Whether one likes them or not, it is accepted with zen like serenity.

Thomas Edison was at home eating dinner. A man burst into his home, interrupting him. He had bad news. His research facility was on fire. Now how would you imagine Edison to react? Do you imagine Edison panicking or do you hear him screaming out “Why me?” or is he deeply distraught or do you see him in deep agony?
None of these happened. Edison requested his son to go and get his mother. It seems, Edison excitedly told his son, “She’ll never see a fire like this again.”
Naturally, Edison’s son thought his father had lost his mind, and rightfully so. All of Edison’s experiments, things that could never be replicated, were inside his laboratory, burning to the ground.
“Don’t worry. It’s all right,” Edison said calmly, “All my mistakes and a lot of unnecessary rubbish have just got burnt.”
In this, Edison revealed the true nature of Amor Fati – choosing to love your fate, no matter what.

Not only was he “NOT broken-hearted”, he was revitalised. Despite losing over $1 million at the age of 67 in that fire, he persevered and made over $10 million thereafter. WOW!

I am in love with the concept of Amor Fati. Why? Because, the power that we have in life by accepting our fate is so immense that you feel nothing is impossible for you. You believe that everything has a purpose, and that it is up to you to make this purpose something positive and active.

Maybe you lost your job.
Maybe someone cheated you of your entire life’s earnings.
Maybe, your trust was broken with impunity.
Maybe, the person you love the most, is facing a life threatening disease.
Maybe, someone ill treated you.
The challenge of your life may be considerable and inescapable.
And yet you’re given the choice to greet it with a smile. And then, act..That’s AMOR FATI.

The goal of this article is not to make you feel “okay” or even “good” when terrible things happen. It’s to make you feel GREAT irrespective of what happens. If it happened, then it was meant to happen. You are meant to make the best of it.

It is unnatural, I know, to feel calmness when faced with calamities. But see it this way.
It is fuel for you to push harder when you felt lost.
It is fuel for you to work harder when you want to quit.
It is fuel for you to think big when nothing was going right.
It is fuel for you to smile when all you want to do is frown.

Amor Fati, my dearest friends.....
